Listen to your body

Hey folks, just a quickie from me today. When you take up exercise or you exercise regularly, it is important that you become aware of your body, the aches, the niggles and listen to what your body may be telling you.

If you find your knee gives you pain going up hill or an ache is keeping you awake at night, or you find that you are reaching for the anti-inflammatories for the same recurring swelling, then its time to seek a second opinion.

My first preference is a physio. They have 4 years training for a start, plus have seen and heard it all. True, some are better than others, and I recommend you ask your friends for recommendations. Also ask at the practice to request someone who is specialised in say, sports related injuries. There are also GREAT massage peeps in Cairns that provide sports massage, myofacial release, dry needling... to name a few...

Be warned, that little niggle could be pulling your knee joint out of place or that tingling in your fingers when you type can lead into MUCH bigger issues if you keep popping pills and telling yourself it will be alright - cos in most cases, it won't!

Many niggles are easy fixes with a little time and dedication on your part. Once you master your posture, strengthen your weak points, stretch your tight muscles, you can stay on top of your body and keep moving  - and keep doing what you love!

My faves are:

Amanda Gale - physio - See Shelley, she's very thorough and intuitive

Shiatsu Healing, Trinity Beach Road - Thai/shiatsu massage, myofacial release, reiki - to name a few. Tell Julie what your problem is and she'll get onto it. If you feel low on energy or down, then she is definitely the one to see. She'll give you a treatment to help. She's the best!

A Fuller Life, Palm Cove - See Deb or Andrew. They provide many treatments, just tell them your issue and let them do the work. Just brilliant.

That's all from me! There are many other talented professionals in Cairns, so please feel free to share yours below.

Do you run faster when you spot someone you know?

I am chuckling whilst writing this because you know and I know, that this is TRUE!

When you go out for a jog, you typically meander along (or leap) at your own pace, in your own little world. Its the place of calm, the place of meditation (if you haven't ever jogged outside before, once you get over the initial shock, its actually quite a stress reliever).

But... there is also that moment when you just cannot jog anymore and <shock>,  you have to WALK (oh the shame)! So, you slow to grinding halt, just in time to see... hang on... your neighbour, or another fit guy/gal coming the other way. EEEEEEK!

What do you do?????

RUN of course... like your life depends on it.

The bounce in your step is obvious as you put your best smile on and give a cheery wave that indicates nothing more than 'oh look at me, how fit am I' As you breeze by, the signal is reciprocated by another runner... your neighbour half smiles in sympathy, (they aren't fooled). The leaps continue... until you are out of sight... turn the corner, ANYTHING that means you can STOP and... GASP... falling to your knees in awe of your unplanned 'sprint like a pro'

So, when you are next out and you see your jogger friend sprint by with ease, take a few paces  and turn back to look. Follow them. The truth will be revealed.

The secret is now out. Like if you have ever done this!
